Rewa, India – A deadly crash on National Highway‑30 near Tendua Laua Parasi village in Rewa district turned Sunday night into a nightmare.
An SUV carrying a family from Durg, Chhattisgarh, was traveling too fast when it lost control. The door‑sliding Scorpio skidded, struck a motorcycle, and then smashed into several pedestrians. Four people lost their lives instantly: Ramnaresh Saket, 55, his wife Ruchi, 50, and their daughter Ranjana, 22. A motorcyclist also died, and the driver and one passenger of the SUV were badly injured.
The crash threw bodies several metres, snapped a roadside electric pole, and flipped the SUV into a nearby field. The front of the car was mangled beyond recognition. The injured were pulled out by local residents and rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa. Two occupants now lie in ICU under critical care, but officials say the injuries are stabilising.
Rewa district collector Pratibha Pal announced on X that the Red Cross Society will give each bereaved family ₹50 000. “I’m heart‑broken by this accident. My thoughts are with the families,” she said. She and the Superintendent of Police, Shailendra Singh, visited the hospital to meet the victims and ensure doctors provided the best treatment.
The accident triggered chaos on NH‑30. After the news spread, crowds surged onto the highway, blocking both lanes with logs, stones, and burning tyres. Traffic jam spanned more than 5 km in each direction. Police spent nearly two hours clearing the road before normal flow resumed.
Emergency services are still working on the scene, and the police are investigating why the SUV was speeding. The investigation will also look into whether the motorcycle’s rider was engaged in illegal speeding or riding practices. The area remains tense as residents mourn and demand answers.
This tragedy highlights the dangers of high‑speed driving on India’s busy highways. Residents, motorists, and officials now call for stricter enforcement of speed limits on National Highway‑30 and better road safety measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
