India’s Dussehra celebrations are heating up across the country, blending ancient traditions with modern flair just ahead of the big festival on Wednesday. In Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, locals are gearing up with massive effigies of Ravan, Kumbhakaran, and Meghnath at Subash Sports Stadium. Artist Chander Pal Kashyap, who’s helping set them up, shared his excitement with : “We love it when people come here to watch Dussehra. Just like we achieved victory in Operation Sindoor, we want the same success in the future. Everyone should live with love.”
Kashyap’s nod to Operation Sindoor—a key military win—ties right into Dussehra’s theme of good triumphing over evil, drawing crowds who gather for the lively procession and effigy burnings.
Over in Chhattisgarh, the National Club in Raipur is pulling out all the stops at WRS Colony. They’re installing huge Ravan, Kumbhakaran, and Meghnath effigies as a highlight of this year’s Dussehra festivities. Club office bearer G. Swamy told they’re planning even bigger things ahead. “The club has completed its 54th year—or maybe 55th—with Purandhar Mishra leading since last year. We aim to improve every year. Next time, you’ll see Ravan standing at least 25 to 50 feet tall.” Artists from West Bengal have already finished their work, promising a spectacular show.
Meanwhile, down south in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district, the coastal town of Kulasekarapattinam is alive with the vibrant Kulasekarapattinam Dasara festival. Thousands of devotees flock daily to the Sri Mutharamman Temple during Navratri, joining special rituals like abhishekam, colorful decorations, and devotional ceremonies for the goddess.
The whole town buzzes with energy—festival markets overflow with treats and trinkets, turning the streets into a hub of joy and devotion. This annual event stands out as one of Tamil Nadu’s most colorful religious celebrations, showcasing deep cultural and spiritual roots that draw people from far and wide.
