India-Pakistan ties stay strained after the deadly Pahalgam terror attacks on April 22, and Congress leader Pawan Bansal points the finger at Pakistan’s deep-rooted anti-India mindset as the biggest roadblock to better relations.
Bansal, a former Union Minister, stresses that everyday people in Pakistan actually crave peace with India—unlike their government. He shared this view based on his own trips to the neighboring country. “I’ve been there myself, and I can tell you talks have happened,” Bansal told . “Folks on both sides want peace, but the Pakistani government and system just aren’t ready. Their whole attitude stems from anti-India feelings. So, true good relations might never fully take shape.”
His comments come as a heated debate rages over Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda’s remarks. Pitroda compared the people of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, saying he feels at home whenever he visits those places. Bansal’s take highlights a divide between ordinary Pakistanis and their establishment.
India has always pushed for strong, forward-looking bonds with its neighbors, Bansal added. But he slammed Pakistan for ignoring India’s feelings time and again. “Pakistan keeps fueling terrorism and chaos in our country by sending in terrorists and stirring up trouble,” he said. “As long as that goes on, no solid relations can build. The Pakistani establishment’s main goal seems to be spreading anti-India talk—it’s like the core of what they do.”
Shifting gears, Bansal fired back at the United States’ recent hike in H-1B visa fees, calling it a move that could backfire on America itself. The U.S. once welcomed young talent to boost its economy, he noted, but now it’s slamming the door. “After Trump’s policies, fewer people will head there,” Bansal explained. “America lacks enough skilled workers as it is, and this will hurt them bad. The fee jump makes it tougher for young folks, especially since over 70% of H-1B visas go to Indians. In the end, this decision wounds America the most.”
