Gujarat is bracing for a heavy monsoon week, with expert forecasts warning of intense rainfall across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple alerts, including yellow and orange warnings, urging residents and authorities to stay prepared for heavy to very heavy showers.
Starting Tuesday, areas like Navsari, Valsad, and the Union Territories of Daman, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli can expect heavy rain. On September 3, the district of Narmada is under an orange alert, meaning very heavy rain is likely. Other districts including Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and nearby union territories have yellow warnings for rain.
The heaviest rainfall is forecasted for September 4. Districts such as Narmada, Tapi, Chhota Udepur, and Dang could receive very heavy to extremely heavy rain in some places. These areas have been marked with orange alerts, indicating the need for caution. A yellow alert has been issued for other districts like Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, and parts of Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.
Rain patterns will continue on September 5, with heavy to very heavy rain expected in Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Narmada, Bharuch, Dang, and Tapi. Some places might even see extremely heavy rainfall, prompting orange alerts. Meanwhile, districts such as Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Banaskantha, Rajkot, Junagadh, and Gir Somnath are under yellow alerts, meaning caution is advised but the rainfall may not be as intense.
The monsoon activity stays strong through September 6. Orange alerts are in place for Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Bhavnagar, and Botad. Other districts in northern, central, and Saurashtra regions will see heavy rain under yellow alerts.
By September 7, widespread rainfall is expected to affect nearly the whole state, including important cities like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and coastal areas in Saurashtra and Kutch.
The IMD explains that the monsoon trough is currently running from Ganganagar to the Bay of Bengal, with an upper air cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal and Myanmar. A new low-pressure area is forecasted to form over the north Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours, which is likely to boost rainfall in Gujarat in the coming days.
Stay alert and keep safe as Gujarat faces a busy and rainy monsoon week ahead!
