On Sunday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu greeted Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi when she arrived in Shimla. The prime minister said the senior Congress leaders will likely join the big unveiling ceremony for a statue of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Saturday, October 13, at the historic Ridge Maidan.
Sukhu walked through the site, checking the stage set‑up, seating, and crowd‑control plans. He told reporters the event will carry great emotion and political weight for the people of the state, especially with Congress figures like Sonia and her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in attendance. “It is an honour for Himachal’s people and our Congress family to have national leaders like Sonia and Priyanka here for this landmark moment,” Sukhu said.
The chief minister noted that the state government and party officials have carefully arranged everything, from security to smooth coordination across departments. “Every party worker and leader is wholeheartedly contributing to make this unveiling memorable for Virbhadra Singh, who is beloved by the state,” he added.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Col. Dhani Ram Shandil and Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh also inspected the preparations. They described the ceremony as a historic occasion that will draw a large crowd and include a public rally to celebrate Virbhadra Singh’s six‑term service and development work for Himachal Pradesh.
