Guwahati, Assam – Garima Saikia Garg, the wife of popular singer‑songwriter Zubeen Garg, said she trusts the legal system to uncover the truth behind her husband’s death in Singapore. The couple’s wife told reporters that the investigation must finish “with everything needed to bring justice for Zubeen.”
The death claim was made after the singer died on September 19 in Singapore, where he was performing at the Northeast India Festival. Authorities say the incident was a “failing to rescue” that led to drowning, though the singer was a trained swimmer.
Garima added that she has faith in the police and courts. “If anyone is proven guilty, the law will do what it must,” she said. She also said she is cooperating fully with investigators.
Police officials confirm that an investigation is underway. SIT officer Moramee Das recorded Garima’s statement and also obtained statements from Zubeen Garg’s sister, Palmee. The investigation is still in progress, said the officer.
In the last week, the police detained four people linked to the case. Siddharth Sharma, the singer’s manager, and Shyamkanu Mahanta, the festival organiser, were arrested. Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, a bandmate of Zubeen, and co‑singer Amritprava Mahanta were also taken into custody. All four are being held in police custody for about 14 days.
The indictment claims that during the emergency, Siddharth Sharma allegedly shouted “let him go” and stopped providing help. He allegedly forced control of a yacht, causing it to wobble, and allegedly tried to hide the incident at a foreign venue. Shekhar Goswami also claims that Sharma and Mahanta poisoned Zubeen and then moved the location overseas to cover up the conspiracy.
The case is now being handled by Assam’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta. A single‑man inquiry commission, headed by Gauhati High Court Justice Soumitra Saikia, has also been established to look into what happened.
Mahanta has approached the Supreme Court to ask that the investigation move from the Assam SIT to a central agency such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Details of the arrest and charge sheet are being released as the inquiry continues, with the aim of delivering clear justice for the late singer Zubeen Garg.
