The Indian Army celebrated its 2025 Veterans Swabhiman Rally in Guwahati’s Narangi Military Station on Sunday, drawing more than 2,500 former servicemen and women from Assam and nearby states. The rally was run by Headquarters 51 Sub Area and aimed to honour the courage, sacrifice and service of veterans while showing support for their families.

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya led the ceremony as the chief guest. He praised the bravery and patriotism of the soldiers and reminded the nation that it owes a lasting debt to all “Veer Naris” for keeping the country safe. In his speech, Governor Acharya also urged continued efforts to strengthen welfare programmes for the armed‑forces community.

The event attracted a wide mix of dignitaries. Senior officers such as Lt Gen Sanjay Malik (GOC 101 Area), Maj Gen A K Sharma (GOC 51 Sub Area), retired Lt Gen R P Kalita and retired Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi all spoke alongside civil officials. Their presence underscored the Army’s commitment to veterans’ well‑being.

During the rally, the Army handed out financial assistance to needy veterans and Veer Naris. It also distributed essential welfare items, including motorised wheelchairs, mobility scooters and mechanical medical beds, to veterans with physical challenges.

The venue hosted several stalls to serve veterans and their families. Medical care, pension advisory, financial counselling, and information on employment and skill‑development schemes were available, helping participants address varied needs.

The ceremony mailed a powerful message of pride, dignity and gratitude. It highlighted the Army’s enduring support for veterans and their loved ones and the importance of fostering stronger ties between serving soldiers, ex‑servicemen and their next of kin.

Together, the rally celebrated the hard‑won peace that veterans have helped secure and reaffirmed the Army’s pledge to protect the welfare of each veteran and their family. The event demonstrates the steadfast bond the Indian Army maintains with those who once served in its ranks.
