Srinagar – On Thursday, the Counter‑Intelligence Wing (CIK) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police raided 13 sites across the Kashmir Valley after the Delhi terror blast. The raids targeted the banned Jamaat‑e‑Islami (JeI) and were coordinated with Haryana Police.
The operation followed the arrest of Dr. Mohd Umar, a Pulwama doctor who was linked to the blast. Police confirmed his identity after DNA matched his mother’s sample. Dr. Umar had escaped arrest when his terror partners were detained—Dr. Adil from Kulgam and Dr. Muzammil Ganai of Koil in Pulwama.
In Faridabad, another key suspect, Dr. Adil, was caught on CCTV posting JeM (Jaish‑e‑Mohammad) posters. An AK‑47 was found in his locker at the Government Medical College in Anantnag. His arrest led to the arrest of Dr. Muzammil Ganai, who worked at Al‑Falah Medical College. Police seized over 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate from his vehicle in Faridabad.
A woman doctor from Lucknow, Dr. Shaheen Shahid, who also worked with Dr. Umar, was taken into custody after an assault rifle was found in her car. Lucknow police detained her brother on Wednesday for questioning.
The Delhi blast investigation has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The crackdown on a “white‑collar terrorism” network involving medical professionals marks a new chapter in Jammu and Kashmir’s fight against terror.
Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha’s decision to terminate government employees with terror links has been vindicated by these busts, though it has drawn criticism from parties such as the National Conference.
