Jammu, November 10 – A car blast outside Delhi’s historic Red Fort killed eight people and left dozens wounded, sparking grief from leaders across India. Jammu‑and‑Kashmir’s Lt Governor Manoj Sinha posted a heartfelt message on X, saying, “I am deeply pained by the loss of lives in Delhi. My thoughts are with the bereaved families and I pray that the injured recover soon.” Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti echoed the shock, writing, “I am deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic Red Fort car blast that has taken eight precious lives and injured so many.” She added, “My heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones; no words can ease their pain. We pray for a speedy recovery of the injured and for the prompt uncovering of the cause.”
Local residents in Jammu‑Kashmir expressed anger and sorrow. “The pain and suffering of families whose loved ones are killed or injured simply cannot be understood by anyone other than those of us who have lived amid bomb explosions, firing and vengeance for almost four decades,” said Abdul Gani Mir, a resident of Hazratbal.
The blast occurred on the same day that police in J&K and Haryana conducted a joint anti‑terror operation in Faridabad. Authorities seized 2,900 kg of explosives, likely ammonium nitrate, along with timers, an assault rifle, a pistol and other weaponry. Two doctors were arrested for their role in the attacks, prompting a high‑security alert in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Jammu‑Kashmir.
Eyewitnesses described the explosion as a “deafening roar that felt like the earth was caving in,” with black smoke billowing from the wreckage. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed the intensity of the blast, noting that seven fire tenders rushed to the scene and the area was cordoned off immediately.
Earlier that morning, J&K police also busted an inter‑state terror cell linked to Jaish‑e‑Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat‑ul‑Hind, recovering 2,900 kg of explosives, two assault rifles, pistols and timers. Seven people were arrested as part of the operation.
The Red Fort blast came just a day before the second phase of the Bihar assembly elections, adding a chilling reminder of the ongoing threat of terrorism in the country. The rapid police response and swift arrests aim to prevent further attacks and restore public confidence.
As the nation mourns the victims, law‑enforcement agencies remain on high alert, working to uncover the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
