Thiruvananthapuram – November 1 – M.S. Kumar, a former BJP spokesperson in Kerala, blasted his party’s leadership in a fiery Facebook post that has now gone viral. He accused the BJP of abandoning its own workers and tying its finger to the suicide of councilor Anil Kumar, a respected local politician who died last month.
Kumar’s criticism comes just weeks before the Thiruvananthapuram local‑body elections, a crucial contest where the BJP hopes to take control of the city’s corporation. For the past two terms the party has been the main opposition on the council, pushing the Congress to a distant third place while the CPI‑M‑led Left holds the mayor’s office.
In the viral post, Kumar—now chair of the Thiruvithamkoor Cooperative Society—shared that he, too, is suffering from mental stress because party leaders have turned away from him. “Those whom Anil trusted turned away from him. I am going through the same situation,” he wrote.
He says the society has a serious financial crisis because many BJP functionaries, who borrowed money from it, refuse to repay. “Seventy per cent of those who took loans are from my own party. Of those who have defaulted, 90 per cent are BJP members – from ordinary workers to state office‑bearers, including cell convenors,” he added. He has repeatedly asked these leaders to clear their dues, but his pleas have been ignored.
Kumar announced plans to publish the names of the loan defaulters, including senior party figures, in an upcoming post. “I have never been corrupt, but I’m now hated for having helped people who betrayed me. I have learned a bitter lesson – never help anyone blindly,” he wrote.
Recalling councilor Anil, Kumar called him a “sincere young politician” who had to end his life after the cooperative sector collapsed. He blamed false media reports and politically motivated attacks for sparking panic among depositors and borrowers, pushing small societies to the brink. “Anil lost hope when those he expected to stand by him walked away. The same is happening to me,” he said, urging political leaders to take responsibility instead of merely offering condolences after such tragedies.
The post has stirred controversy within the BJP’s Kerala unit, already under pressure over accusations of financial mismanagement in several cooperative societies. It highlights growing tension between the party’s grassroots workforce, its leadership, and the broader political landscape in Kerala’s capital.
