PM Modi Mourns Hassan Truck Accident During Ganesh Visarjan, Announces Aid for Victims
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared his deep sorrow over a heartbreaking truck accident in Hassan, Karnataka, that claimed nine lives during a Ganesh Visarjan procession. The incident happened on Saturday, turning a festive celebration into tragedy.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, "The mishap in Hassan is heart-rending. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. I hope those who have been injured recover at the earliest." To support the affected families, the Prime Minister’s Office announced Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF for each deceased person’s next of kin. Injured victims will receive Rs 50,000 each.
The accident struck during the Ganesh immersion in Mosale Hosahalli village. A speeding truck, driven carelessly by Bhuvanesh, first hit a bike, crashed into a divider, and then plowed into the crowd. Police reports say four people died instantly, while five others passed away in hospitals. Most of the victims were young students from nearby college hostels, along with locals from Mosale Hosahalli, Hirehalli, and surrounding areas.
The truck driver, Bhuvanesh, ended up in the hospital after an angry crowd pulled him out and beat him. Authorities have arrested him, and investigations into the Ganesh Visarjan accident continue.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah quickly stepped in, offering condolences and announcing Rs 5 lakh compensation for each deceased family. He also promised free medical treatment for the injured. "This is a painful loss during our Ganesh festival celebrations," the CM said, urging quick action.
Following CM Siddaramaiah’s orders, District In-charge Minister Krishna Byre Gowda and the local administration swung into action right away. Teams of officials and doctors stayed on high alert through the night. They coordinated with families, completed post-mortems without delay, and handed over the bodies swiftly.
The district medical team personally oversaw care for the injured, arranging top-notch facilities and specialists. Minister Gowda visited hospitals, spoke directly with grieving families, and kept in touch with the District Commissioner and Medical Officer to ensure smooth support.
This Ganesh Visarjan tragedy in Hassan has shocked Karnataka, highlighting road safety concerns during festivals. Officials promise a thorough probe to prevent such accidents in future processions.
