Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav Announces Rs 5 Crore Aid for Flood-Hit Chhattisgarh

In a show of solidarity, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stepped up to help neighboring Chhattisgarh amid devastating floods triggered by heavy rainfall. On Sunday, he announced Rs 5 crore in financial support, along with essential relief materials, to aid the flood-affected people there.

Speaking to reporters in Bhopal, CM Yadav shared his deep concern over the situation. "Heavy rains over the past week have caused floods in several Chhattisgarh districts, leading to loss of lives and damage to property worth crores," he said. As neighboring states, Madhya Pradesh feels a strong duty to provide all possible assistance. That’s why we’re sending Rs 5 crore to the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister’s relief fund, plus vital supplies for those hit hardest.

Chhattisgarh officials confirmed that the northern parts of the state suffered the most from the relentless downpours. Thankfully, the situation remains under control. Rescue teams have safely evacuated people stranded in flood zones and moved them to relief camps. So far, the floods have claimed around 20 lives across the state, including eight in the last two weeks from separate incidents. While it’s tragic, officials note it’s not as severe as the flooding seen in Punjab.

To get a full picture, authorities conducted aerial surveys of the flood-affected areas. Now, ground teams are assessing the exact damage to properties and crops. Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai personally visited the worst-hit spots, including Bastar and Dantewada districts. He carried out both aerial and on-ground inspections after last week’s heavy rains took eight lives there.

Rescue efforts were swift—over 2,000 people got evacuated from low-lying areas in Dantewada, Sukma, Bijapur, and Bastar districts. The floods didn’t spare livestock either, killing 96 animals. Reports show about 495 houses damaged, along with 16 culverts and bridges washed away.

One heartbreaking incident stands out: On September 3, a section of the Luti (Satbahini) Dam in Dhaneshpur, Balrampur district, collapsed. This sparked a flash flood that sadly claimed eight lives.

This aid from Madhya Pradesh highlights how states come together during crises like Chhattisgarh floods. Relief work continues, and experts urge residents in flood-prone areas to stay alert as the monsoon season wraps up.
