Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde pledged full support for flood-hit residents on Wednesday, vowing that no one will miss out on aid amid the heavy rains and flooding devastating Dharashiv district and other parts of the state.
Shinde urged leaders to skip the politics and focus on helping people battered by this natural disaster. “They need priority assistance right now,” he stressed during a visit to the worst-hit areas.
In a show of solidarity, Shiv Sena ministers and lawmakers, including Shinde, announced they would donate one month’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The party has a long history of standing by farmers during crises like these floods, Shinde noted, and they’re ready to step up again.
Shinde toured damaged villages in Paranda, Bhum, and Kalam tehsils of Dharashiv district. He promised quick temporary relief for affected villagers and farmers, delivered through official surveys known as Panchnama. To speed things up, the government will ease rules and tweak aid criteria—especially for fields where heavy rainfall has completely eroded the soil.
In Paranda tehsil, Shinde checked out farms in Shinde and Karale hamlets of Karanja village, where torrential downpours caused massive losses. The Sina River overflowed, flooding homes with mud and silt while wiping out entire crops and stripping topsoil from fields. Shinde heard directly from locals about their struggles and assured them the government has their back.
Joined by Dharashiv’s guardian minister, Shinde said the focus remains on rescue and relief operations. Displaced families will get rehabilitation support soon. “Everyone should pitch in however they can—these people need our help now,” he added.
Shinde called for patience during this Maharashtra floods crisis. Central and state governments will provide aid, with bigger financial decisions coming after Panchnama reports reveal the full extent of the damage.
But Shiv Sena’s efforts drew some flak. The party sent about 50 trucks of privately bought relief supplies to Dharashiv, but critics pointed out the vehicles featured large photos of Shinde and guardian minister Pratap Sarnaik, turning aid into what some saw as a political stunt.
