Bengaluru, Nov. 12 – Congress MLA and North‑West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation president Raju Kage sent a letter to Karnataka’s Governor, Thawarchand Gehlot, asking that 15 districts in North Karnataka become a new state.
Kage said the move would make “administrative convenience” easier and boost development for the region. The proposed state would cover Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Bagalkot, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Koppal, Raichur, Karwar, Haveri, Vijayanagara, Ballari and Davanagere.
He argued that the area has long suffered “injustice, discrimination and step‑motherly treatment” since Karnataka was formed. “Creating another Kannada‑speaking state would be a matter of pride,” Kage told the Governor.
The MLA highlighted North Karnataka’s natural resources and its historical contribution to Kannada culture and state unity. He also praised the North Karnataka Agitation Committee, which has gathered more than one crore signatures in support of the statehood push.
Earlier this year, the committee submitted memoranda to the Governor (Jan. 5), President of India (Jan. 3) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Jan. 10). Kage urges the Governor to consider the appeal and recommend the creation of a separate state for the region’s comprehensive development.
