Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has taken a big step to support flood-hit farmers in the state. On Saturday, he transferred Rs 20 crore directly into the bank accounts of 17,500 farmers across 11 districts affected by recent floods and heavy rains. This financial help aims to assist farmers who have suffered crop damage and other losses during the monsoon season.
During a virtual meeting from his Bhopal residence, the Chief Minister interacted with farmers who received the flood relief funds. Revenue Minister Karan Singh Verma was also present. So far, the Madhya Pradesh government has released over Rs 188 crore this year to help flood-affected families, including Rs 58 crore last month and Rs 20 crore on Saturday.
In the virtual discussion, CM Yadav reaffirmed the government’s commitment to support farmers. He said, “The BJP government always stands with farmers, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working hard to help them grow and succeed.” The funds released this Saturday follow a recent review meeting held on September 3, where officials discussed ongoing flood relief efforts and fertilizer distribution in affected districts.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister asked district officials to provide immediate relief to areas where crops have been damaged. He emphasized that aid should reach families and livestock within 24 hours if they lose their homes or animals. He also instructed teams to keep supplies ready for quick deployment—such as tents, food, and essentials—in flood-prone areas.
With heavy rainfall expected in the coming days, CM Yadav urged police and district administrations to stay alert. They need to take precautions like barricading bridges and issuing warnings to prevent accidents during floods.
The recent weather reports show that Madhya Pradesh has seen 971.5 mm (about 38 inches) of rain from June 1 to September 2—more than usual by 21 percent. Districts like Guna, Mandla, Sheopur, Raisen, and Ashoknagar have experienced the highest rainfall. The flooding has caused significant damage, with around 400 lives lost and over 5,000 houses damaged across the state. Livestock deaths total 1,814, and farmers have seen their 12,000 hectares of crops affected in multiple districts including Shivpuri, Burhanpur, Damoh, and others.
The government continues to work tirelessly to help those affected, providing financial aid, relief supplies, and safety measures to reduce damage and save lives during this challenging monsoon season.
