Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Saturday that district collectors will plan the 150th‑anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter Bir Sha Munda with full respect and dignity. “Collector offices must launch social and cultural activities from tribal‑heavy districts and blocks,” Yadav said.
The state government has mapped out dozens of programs, focusing on Jabalpur and Alirajpur. Tribal community members will line streets in traditional dress, play native instruments, and participate in chariot rides—called Rath Yatas—from different villages that will converge at each district headquarters by November 14.
Special events include a Baiga Conference for vulnerable tribal groups in Mandla, the Bhagoria Festival in Alirajpur, a Bharia Conference in Chhindwara, the Tantya Mama Balidan Diwas in Patalpani, and a Mata Shabari Jayanti gathering in Satna.
Since 2021, the Janjatiy Gaurav Diwas has taken off across Madhya Pradesh to honor tribal freedom fighters and celebrate their rich culture. The initiative was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bhopal’s Jamboori Maidan on Nov 15, 2021, and introduced more than a dozen tribal‑benefit schemes.
Bir Sha Munda’s Ulgulan movement shook the British Empire, inspiring national consciousness. “Because of his fierce leadership against the British, Nov 15 has become a day to honor all tribal heroes,” Yadav added.
