Hyderabad, Nov 5 – Telangana’s Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said Wednesday that comments he’d made about Muslims and the Congress party were taken out of context. He used the evening’s election rally in Jubilee Hills to clarify what he said and to defend his record with minorities.
Reddy’s remarks stirred backlash from opposition parties and Muslim groups, who accused him of saying, “Muslims exist because Congress, and if you’re not part of Congress you’re nothing.” The comments were condemned as insulting, and many demanded an apology.
During the rally, Reddy insisted he has always been a secular leader. He praised Congress governments for giving minorities “many opportunities” and said, “It is only Congress that put minorities in major posts. Congress means Muslims, and Muslims mean Congress.” He added that in his own government Hindus and Muslims are treated the same.
Reddy also highlighted his personal electoral success. He said he won the Kodangal Assembly seat three times with minority support and that minorities faced no problems during the 20 months of Congress rule. He further accused BRS of cheating Muslims and hinted that the party might soon merge with the BJP.
The Chief Minister took a swipe at Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy over the refusal to include minority leader Muzaffar Azharuddin in the Telangana cabinet. “Why is Kishan Reddy opposing Azharuddin? What’s his problem if a minority leader can become a minister?” he asked.
He also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for blocking investigations into former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) over the Kaleshwaram irrigation scam and BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) over the Formula E race investigation. “The Modi government is harassing political rivals with IT, CBI and ED raids, yet it won’t act against BRS leaders involved in these scams,” Reddy said.
Reddy reminded listeners that KCR has publicly backed Modi, and that in the upcoming Jubilee Hills by‑election BJP is allegedly supporting BRS. He urged the central government to allow a CBI inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project and to address the arrest of KTR in the Formula E case.
The remarks come just days before the by‑election in Jubilee Hills on Nov 11, a key contest for both BRS and BJP. The controversy highlights the tense political environment in Telangana, where minority rights and allegations of corruption continue to dominate headlines.
