Protest Erupts in Bihar Over Insult to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mother
Bihar witnessed a big protest and a statewide bandh on Thursday, organized by the NDA (National Democratic Alliance). The protest was called to oppose and demand an apology for what they called derogatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ led by the Mahagathbandhan in Darbhanga.
The bandh started early in the morning at 7 a.m. and lasted until noon. During this time, supporters of the BJP and its allies took to the streets, shouting slogans against opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav.
Women workers of JD(U), led by spokesperson Anjum Ara, participated actively in the protests. They demanded an apology from Congress and RJD leaders for the disrespect shown to the Prime Minister’s mother.
“The way Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother from the stage was an insult to all Indian women,” said Ara. “Women in Bihar are protesting today, and we will keep up this pressure until they apologize.”
Former JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Kahkashan Perween also condemned the remarks, saying, “Everyone saw how the Prime Minister’s mother was insulted in Darbhanga. The NDA in Bihar has called for this bandh to honor her and to stand against these insults.”
BJP leader Sanjay Mayukh expressed confidence that the public in Bihar was upset too. “People are out on the streets and will respond strongly. No one should insult the mother of the Prime Minister—that will not be tolerated,” he said.
JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha slammed opposition leaders, stating, “During the Voter Adhikar Yatra, Mahagathbandhan leaders insulted Prime Minister Modi and his late mother with abusive language. This is against Indian traditions. Bihar is a land that honors mothers, not insults them.”
The protest saw many locals shouting slogans against Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav. Several demonstrators told news agencies that they are protesting because derogatory remarks were made about PM Modi’s mother during Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Darbhanga. They demanded leaders from Congress and RJD apologize, stressing that insulting her is an insult to all women of Bihar.
Roads in several towns, including Sasaram and Bhagalpur, were blocked by protesters. In Bhagalpur, traffic was disrupted at major locations, including the Bhagalpur-Banka main road at Amarpur Market. These protests were part of the NDA’s fierce response to the derogatory comments made during the opposition rally.
Overall, the Bihar bandh saw strong public participation, with widespread slogans demanding respect for the Prime Minister and his family. The protests highlight the deep political tensions and the importance of respect for national leaders and their families in Indian politics.
