Odisha BJP Leaders Meet to Boost GST Reforms and Swadeshi Push
In Bhubaneswar, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi brought together key Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders for a lively Legislature Party meeting at the Odisha Assembly. The gathering happened on Thursday, with BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh leading the discussions. Other big names joined in, including Odisha BJP in-charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar, State President Manmohan Samal, and Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, along with several BJP MLAs.
Tarun Chugh grabbed attention by spotlighting the new seven-day GST refund policy. "This ensures quick reimbursements for businesses," he said, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s business-friendly GST model. Chugh explained how it promotes "one nation, one tax" to simplify things for everyone. He added that starting Navratri on September 22, fresh GST reforms will kick in, and special boards will highlight these changes. But the real goal? Making sure the benefits reach ordinary people. He urged everyone to keep an eye on the tax ratio for better compliance.
Chugh also talked strategy for the grains market. The BJP plans to create a targeted list of people to reach out to, pushing for certain grains to go tax-free. "We’ll make sure no extra charges hit anyone," he assured, aiming to ease the burden on farmers and traders.
This meeting ties into a bigger national drive. Earlier this month, PM Modi rolled out GST reforms while stressing the "Garv se kaho ye swadeshi hai" (Proudly say this is Indian-made) theme. He called on MPs to organize Swadeshi Melas during Diwali and Navratri to promote local products. "Every MP should set up exhibitions in their constituencies, showcasing artisans, small industries, and indigenous goods," Modi said during a speech in Madhya Pradesh.
He even suggested putting up boards in every shop that read, "Garv se kaho, ye swadeshi hai." State governments, he added, should launch campaigns to spread the word. With Navratri starting September 22, Modi encouraged buying Indian products to make the most of the new GST changes and build Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
This swadeshi push comes at a time when the US has slapped 50% tariffs on some Indian imports, making homegrown goods even more crucial. Modi shared these thoughts while launching the Swasth Nari Shashakt Parivar Abhiyaan and kicking off several development projects in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. The focus is clear: empower locals, simplify taxes, and celebrate Indian innovation.
