Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off a major development push in Assam on Sunday by laying the foundation stones for key projects in Darrang district. He started with the Darrang Medical College and Hospital, along with the GNM School and B.Sc. Nursing College, boosting healthcare and education in the region.
Modi also launched the foundation for the Guwahati Ring Road Project, designed to ease traffic congestion, improve urban mobility, and connect key areas around the capital. In a big win for connectivity, he laid the stone for the Kuruwa-Narengi Bridge over the Brahmaputra River. This bridge promises to link communities, spark socio-economic growth, and strengthen Assam’s infrastructure.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the event and gifted a memento to PM Modi to honor Krishak Swahid Diwas, remembering the tragic 1894 massacre in Darrang.
The day’s highlights don’t stop there. PM Modi plans to inaugurate and lay foundations for infrastructure and industrial projects worth over Rs 18,530 crore across Assam. These include roads, bridges, medical facilities, and clean energy initiatives that will transform the state.
Later, in Golaghat district’s Numaligarh, Modi will inaugurate the Assam Bioethanol Plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL). This plant focuses on clean energy production and cuts reliance on fossil fuels. He will also start the Polypropylene Plant at NRL, boosting Assam’s petrochemical industry, creating jobs, and driving regional development, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Earlier, CM Sarma called the events a game-changer for Assam. In an X post, he shared: “Today is a momentous occasion for Assam. In a short while from now, Honble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji will dedicate projects worth Rs 18,530 cr. These works include new roads, bridges, a medical college and a major clean energy initiative.”
This visit marks Modi’s two-day trip to Assam. On Saturday, he enjoyed a roadshow in Guwahati and paid respects to Bharat Ratna awardee and legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika during his birth centenary celebrations. With these steps, Assam edges closer to better connectivity, health services, and sustainable growth.
