In Bengaluru on Saturday, the BJP pressed Congress leaders to speak up after the state government held a joint press conference about alleged vote theft. The Karnataka BJP said that leader Rahul Gandhi had practically forced Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to appear in front of the media as the party’s loss in the Bihar elections seemed unavoidable.
Karnataka Assembly opposition leader R. Ashoka slammed the event, saying “Rahul had no choice but to push the CM and D.C.M. into a press conference to defend him.” He accused Rahul of repeating fake claims that voters were stealing ballots, calling them “atom bomb” lingo. Ashoka asked why Rahul hasn’t filed the filings the Election Commission demanded or taken the matter to court. He said the Election Commission had already responded to every allegation and the media had shown the accusations to be false.
Ashoka went further, saying the real issue is that the Congress government is nurturing voter fraud. He claimed the party protects illegal Bangladeshi immigrants instead of deporting them, a move that could let them vote illegally. “If the Congress truly wanted to stop voter fraud, it should remove illegal immigrants right now,” he urged.
In contrast, D.K. Shivakumar, speaking from the Congress office on Saturday, highlighted a nationwide signature drive against voter fraud. Karnataka alone has collected 11.2 million signatures, he said. The petitions will be flown to Delhi on November 10, and a big rally is planned at Ramlila Maidan in late November. Shivakumar said the campaign would continue beyond the planned dates, coordinating with district presidents to finish signature collection. He said the drive, led by Rahul, is meant to protect democracy, the constitution and voting rights.
The story shows how state politics and national elections collide, with both sides accusing each other of undermining India’s electoral system. As the Bihar outcome becomes clearer, the debate over “vote theft” and voter fraud will likely stay in the headlines.
