Shimla, Nov 2 – Himachal Pradesh’s Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla joined a headline‑making ceremony at the historic Ridge in Shimla to mark the 350th anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur’s martyrdom. The event was organized by the Shri Guru Singh Sabha, a key Sikh community group in the state.
During his speech, Governor Shukla highlighted the core values behind Guru Teg Bahadur’s life – sacrifice, devotion, and service to humanity. “Religion isn’t just about worship,” he said. “It’s about protecting people.” The governor praised the Guru’s willingness to put his life on the line for the rights and freedom of everyone, stressing that his bravery still teaches us that standing up for truth and justice never goes in vain.
Shukla also noted that the Guru’s message reaches beyond a single faith. “A gathering of people from different communities and regions on this sacred day shows true Indian unity and brotherhood,” he added. He called on citizens to look to the Guru’s example when fear, intolerance or division arise, urging them to act with courage, compassion, and a willingness to serve.
The Governor urged readers to integrate Guru Teg Bahadur’s ideals into everyday life – promoting tolerance, respecting other faiths, and fostering harmony. “True devotion is walking the path of truth and helping others,” he said.
The ceremony drew many local leaders, including Opposition chief Jai Ram Thakur, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, MP Suresh Kashyap, former MP and Congress president Pratibha Singh, Mayor Surender Chauhan, legislators Harish Janartha and Hardeep Singh Bawa, SGPC member Daljit Singh Bhindar, and other dignitaries, all gathered to honor the Guru’s legacy.
Jasvinder Singh, president of Shri Guru Singh Sabha, first felicitated the Governor before the event. The celebration at Shimla’s Ridge reminded everyone that the past 350 years of Guru Teg Bahadur’s sacrifice continues to inspire present‑day citizens to build a more united and compassionate society.
