Sikh pilgrims set off from Amritsar on Tuesday for a holy journey to Pakistan, joining the celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev’s Prakash Parv. The group, led by the SGPC, will perform prayers at historic Gurdwaras in Nankana Sahib and other sites across the country.
Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj of the Akal Takht Sahib walked with the entourage, offering blessings for a spiritually rewarding pilgrimage. Before leaving, he highlighted the importance of the Kartarpur corridor, calling it a “bridge that connects hearts.” He urged the government to open the Kartarpur Sahib Langar fully, noting that the corridor is more than a travel route – it is a symbol of unity for Sikhs worldwide.
Gargaj reminded the congregation of Guru Nanak’s three golden principles: earn honestly (Kirat Karo), meditate on God’s name (Naam Japo), and share with others (Vand Chhako). He said these pillars continue to inspire equality, service, and community through the Guru’s Langar.
The Jathedar also prayed for global peace, harmony, and the swift release of Sikh prisoners. He encouraged all devotees to live by the Guru’s teachings, declaring “those who follow truth and righteousness are the real heirs of Guru Nanak’s legacy.”
One pilgrim, visiting Pakistan for the first time, said it felt like a dream: “I am overjoyed to be part of this sacred journey.”
The SGPC’s pilgrimage underscores the deep spiritual ties between Amritsar’s Sikhs and the historic sites of Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur Sahib, strengthening bonds across borders.
