The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Thursday that it has hit an important goal in the second phase of its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
Since the nationwide push began on November 4, the government has handed out more than 42 million Enumeration Forms (EFs) to voters in 12 states and union territories. This is part of a drive to keep India’s electoral rolls up‑to‑date before the 2024 elections.
Nearly all the prints are on hand
The ECI printed a total of 50.95 million forms – a 99.91 % completion rate. Of those, 42.18 million have already reached voters, giving a distribution rate of 82.71 %. The counting cycle for the forms runs through December 4.
Top performers
Goa and Lakshadweep have reached full coverage, printing and sending out every EF. Puducherry has 93.41 % completion, while Andaman and Nicobar are at 89.81 %. Gujarat distributed over 4.79 million forms (94.27 % coverage) and Tamil Nadu sent out 5.21 million (81.37 %).
Uttar Pradesh – the country’s largest state – delivered 12.33 million forms, covering about 80 % of its voters. Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have similarly achieved 74.41 % and 81.37 % coverage, respectively. West Bengal has supplied more than 7.14 million forms, reaching 93.22 % of its electorate.
Field‑level support
More than 533,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 1.041 million Booth Level Agents (BLAs) are on the ground to hand out the forms, verify details, and make sure every eligible voter gets a copy. Political parties have also been asked to appoint extra BLAs to improve accuracy during verification.
The ECI’s latest press note highlighted that as of November 12, 37.05 million forms had been distributed out of 50.69 million printed – a 72.66 % distribution rate. This rolls back to the same overall progress, underscoring the drive’s momentum.
The SIR initiative aims to keep voter rolls clean and reliable, giving India voters clear, up‑to‑date contact info and reducing errors that could affect upcoming elections.
