In Guwahati, Assam, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended the Veterans Swabhimaan Rally 2025 at Narangi Military Station on Sunday. The event, organized by Headquarters 51 Sub Area, celebrated the courage and sacrifice of India’s armed forces veterans and showed solidarity with the families of fallen heroes.
During the rally, Governor Acharya called the gathering a moment of pride and reflection. He praised the self‑less spirit of soldiers who have served generations of India, stressing that a soldier’s service never ends—it simply shifts from defending the nation to building it.
The governor highlighted government efforts to support veterans and their families. He mentioned key schemes such as One Rank One Pension (OROP), the Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme, and programs that promote skill development and help ex‑servicemen start their own businesses. In Assam, he noted impressive steps including a 2 % job reservation for ex‑servicemen in Grade I and II government posts, an increase in medical‑college seats for veterans’ children (from three to nine), and the effective work of the State Managing Committee of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare.
Governor Acharya also showcased Raj Bhavan’s initiative, the Rajyapal Assam Rashtriya Kritagyata Aur Jagrookta Yojana, which brings veterans’ stories into schools and colleges, fostering national pride and gratitude among young people.
The rally was awarded the national accolade by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to the Rajyik Sainik Board of Assam for its outstanding contribution to veteran welfare. The governor congratulated the board on receiving this honor.
As a sign of respect, the rally distributed special financial aid to Veer Naris and needy veterans. Physically challenged veterans received motorised wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and mechanical medical beds. Service stalls offered medical support, pension advice, financial counseling, and skill‑development opportunities.
Governor Acharya described the rally as a celebration of the sacred bond between soldiers and citizens—an essential part of India’s strength and soul. The event drew a broad mix of participants, including veterans, serving personnel, and senior civil and military officials such as Lt Gen Sanjay Malik, Maj Gen A K Sharma, Lt Gen R P Kalita (Retd), and Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi (Retd).
