Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami shared some heartfelt thoughts on Swadeshi during a press conference in Dehradun on Sunday. He explained that choosing Swadeshi products does more than boost the economy—it’s a true sign of love and commitment to India.
Speaking at the BJP state headquarters, Dhami stressed how weaving Swadeshi into everyday habits can help turn Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat into reality. This self-reliant India push ties directly into building a developed nation, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047.
“Atmanirbhar Bharat is the key way to fuel the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047 that our Prime Minister has set for all of us,” Dhami said. “When we make Swadeshi part of our routines, it’s not just about economic power. It’s our dedication, our bond, and our affection for our motherland.”
He added that picking local goods connects people deeper to their roots and strengthens the country’s economy. “Swadeshi isn’t only about buying Indian-made items—it links us to our soil and builds a stronger nation,” Dhami noted.
Just two days earlier, on Friday, Dhami led a review meeting at his residence to check on the state’s ongoing GST and Swadeshi Awareness Campaign. He pointed out that the new GST rates, which kicked in on September 22, mark a big win for Uttarakhand’s economy and local businesses. These changes now deliver real benefits straight to everyday people.
Dhami called on public representatives to ramp up awareness efforts and make them hit home. “Take this campaign to every corner—reach traders in village councils and urban areas,” he urged. He wants the drive to spark a real shift toward Swadeshi products, boosting both state and national economies. Promoting these local items, he said, will help achieve a self-reliant India and a self-reliant Uttarakhand.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi echoed these ideas earlier today in the 126th episode of his Mann ki Baat radio show. With Gandhi Jayanti coming up on October 2, Modi encouraged everyone to back Swadeshi goods, especially Khadi fabrics. He reminded listeners that Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, always championed Swadeshi, with Khadi at its heart. “Gandhi pushed for Swadeshi, and Khadi was the star,” Modi said, noting how its popularity dipped after independence but deserves a comeback now.
