Police in Telangana busted a major ganja trafficking operation on Wednesday, seizing over 400 kilograms of the illegal drug hidden inside a load of coconuts. The Rachakonda Narcotics Police Station and the Regional Narcotics Control Cell’s Khammam Wing, part of the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), stopped a suspicious DCM vehicle near Ramoji Film City in Pedda Amberpet, Hyderabad.
Officers caught two transporters from Rajasthan red-handed—Chotu Narayana Lal Naik and Kishan Lal Nayak—while they headed from Visakhapatnam to Rajasthan. The bust uncovered a network aiming to deliver the contraband to suppliers in the state. Authorities identified six suspects in total: Chotu Narayana Lal Naik, Pushkar Raj Naik, Kishan Lal Nayak, Sridhar, Ashu, and Parameshwar. Three of them—Sridhar, Ashu, and Parameshwar—remain on the run.
Digging deeper, EAGLE revealed ties to Om Bishnoi, a ganja transporter from Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. He used to buy the drug from Sridhar in Rajamundry and pay Chotu ₹25,000 per trip to haul it in a Hyundai Venue. But after police arrested Bishnoi in Jagdalpur, Odisha, and locked him up, Chotu saw his chance. He cut a direct deal with Sridhar for 400 kilograms of ganja at ₹2,000 per kilo, planning to flip it to Ashu in Bikaner for double the price—₹4,000 per kilo.
To pull it off, Chotu roped in Pushkar Raj Naik, Kishan Lal Nayak, and Parameshwar for the transport. They stuffed the ganja into a van under coconuts and set off for Rajasthan. Chotu and Pushkar followed in a car while Kishan drove the van. Spotting the convoy on the Vijayawada Highway near Abdullapurmet X Road, the joint police team swooped in and nabbed Chotu and Kishan on the spot.
In the raid, officers grabbed 401.467 kilograms of ganja, five cell phones, the van marked “Nand,” and a car. They filed a case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Rachakonda Narcotics Police Station. This ganja bust highlights ongoing efforts by Telangana police to crack down on drug trafficking networks linking southern India to Rajasthan.
