Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha strongly condemned a recent attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, vowing that his government won’t stand for such violence and will ensure the culprits face justice.
Saha visited the injured BJP karyakartas at GB Pant Hospital in Agartala on Wednesday, where he checked on their condition and talked with doctors about their care. The assault happened on September 21 in Hejamara, just before a Seva Pakhwada event to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. A group of attackers, reportedly linked to the Tipra Motha Party, targeted several BJP members, including Janajati Morcha Pradesh Vice President Mangal Debbarma.
“I went to the hospital today to see the injured and ensure they get proper treatment,” Saha said. “BJP workers are the heart of our party and every event we hold. Our government won’t tolerate attacks on them. Those behind this shameful incident will be held accountable.”
Even though Tipra Motha is a BJP ally in Tripura’s coalition government, Saha noted that the party has spoken out on the issue, and the BJP plans to respond firmly. “The law will handle this—police and courts are in place,” he added. “Why resort to violence? We don’t play that kind of politics. BJP and our government stand for peace. We saw a Mandal office vandalized yesterday, and it looks like part of a bigger plot with multiple people involved.”
Saha emphasized that residents of Tripura won’t put up with such political violence. “We’ve decided the law takes its course, and the people here agree—these acts have no place in our state.”
The incident highlights ongoing tensions in Tripura politics, coming amid efforts to promote community service through programs like Seva Pakhwada. ()
