Agartala, Tripura – Chief Minister Manik Saha urged the Jaati (non‑tribal) and Janajati (tribal) communities to keep living together in harmony after fresh violence hit the state.
The CM, who also runs the home ministry, said the government will not tolerate anyone who tries to upset ethnic unity. “Everyone wants peace,” Saha told reporters. “We must stay united so that such incidents never happen again.”
### Violence in Santirbazar
Last month, on October 23, a state‑wide shutdown called by the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) and its Tiprasa Civil Society caused unrest in Dhalai district’s market towns, especially Santirbazar. According to the CM, some TMP activists attacked traders and officials, leaving more than a dozen people seriously injured, including a development officer, a police officer, an engineer and a trader. Those hurt were rushed to hospitals and received critical care.
Saha, accompanied by senior officials, visited the market to assess the damage and speak with affected traders. He said the local police were dispatched immediately and a prohibitory order was imposed on the area. The order was lifted on October 31, but seven people were arrested for their roles in the violence.
### Government response and relief
The Chief Minister announced a relief package to help victims rebuild. States will get:
– ₹3 lakh for fully damaged houses or shops
– ₹1.5 lakh for severely damaged properties
– ₹15,000 for partially damaged ones
In addition, injured residents will receive financial and medical support through the state helpline.
Saha told reporters that the DGP and other officials would visit Santirbazar to discuss establishing new police stations and outposts, as many locals requested stronger security.
### Looking ahead
The CM said a team of ministers has already collected a ground report on the damage and will brief the district magistrate and chief secretary on rehabilitation steps. “We must keep our nation united,” he stressed. “People in Tripura do not want unrest, and we will work hard to prevent it from happening again.”
With the relief funds in place, Tripura’s government aims to restore normal life for those affected by the October shutdown violence and to reinforce the state’s commitment to ethnic harmony.
