Agartala, Nov. 8 – Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha said the state is putting top priority on better healthcare. The government is boosting both the big city hospitals and all district clinics across the state.

Saha opened Tripura’s 25th annual meeting of the Association of Physicians of India (API). He praised the role of such groups, saying doctors can share ideas and improve patient care. “We want conferences to spark real decisions that upgrade society and our health system,” he told the crowd.

Tripura already hosts three medical colleges that offer about 400 MBBS seats and a dental college with 63 seats. Saha also announced a new private hospital on a new campus that will cost roughly ₹900 crore. A medical college will sit right beside the hospital.

The CM, a dental surgeon, highlighted that the state has completed five kidney transplants. He noted new teaching roles for doctors and nursing programs—B.Sc. Nursing, M.Sc. Nursing, General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), auxiliary nurse midwifery (ANM), pharmacists and allied health courses—will reduce the doctor shortage.

Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, the main referral center, still faces some admin hiccups. To fix this, Tripura signed an MoU with AIIMS New Delhi. The partnership aims to raise patient services to national standards.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, the state has spent about ₹250 crore for citizens’ health. An additional ₹26 crore comes from the Chief Minister’s own Jan Arogya Yojana scheme.

Health outreach is expanding. Tripura now has around 1,100 Health and Wellness Centres. Saha said a modern eye‑hospital will be built next to ILS on a vacant plot in the coming days.

“Sampatti, our state is the second‑best in the Northeast for per‑capita income and Gross State Domestic Product,” the CM noted, underscoring how strong finances allow better health spending.

The meeting drew several key figures: API Secretary Dr. Soumen Chowdhury; national president Prof. Jyotirmoy Pal; AGMC vice‑principal Prof. Tapan Majumdar; Director of Medical Education Prof. H. P. Sharma; API member Prof. Pradip Bhowmik; and state branch president Prof. Arindam Dutta.
