Adhava Arjuna, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief and president of the Basketball Federation of India, skipped the launch of the National Sub‑Junior Basketball Tournament in Dehradun because a family emergency forced him to leave the city.

The federation’s Secretary‑General, Kulvinder Singh Gill, said Arjuna received a call about his sister’s sudden health problem and had to return home. “We wish the tournament every success,” Gill added. “We hope he’ll join us for the final prize ceremony.”

Arjuna landed in Dehradun earlier that day to watch young players compete, but the urgent call cut his visit short. He has officially sent his best wishes to the athletes and organizers.

The TDV leader’s arrival came amid a fresh controversy. He had previously deleted a post on X (formerly Twitter) that urged Tamil Nadu’s youth to stage a protest against the state government—an appeal that many linked to the recent Karur stampede, which killed 41 people on September 27. The screenshot of his post still circulates online.

Lawyers and investigators have charged Arjuna under several sections of the Indian Penal Code: 192, 196(1)(b), 197(1)(d), 353(1)(b), and 353(2). Meanwhile, the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail pleas filed by TVK General Secretary Anand and Joint Secretary C.T.R. Nirmalkumar, both tied to the Karur incident.

In short, the basketball star‑turned‑politician is looking after family health while handling legal backlash over a heated social‑media post. The National Sub‑Junior Tournament continues, and the basketball community hopes Arjuna will return to celebrate the young players’ achievements.
