Two Naxalites with Rs 8 Lakh Bounties Killed in Chhattisgarh Encounter
In a major crackdown on Maoist activities, security forces gunned down two Naxalites in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Friday morning. Each of these Maoists carried a bounty of Rs 8 lakh, police confirmed.
The operation kicked off after security teams got solid tips about Maoist presence in the southwest part of Bijapur. A squad from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) launched a search and ran into the Naxalites, sparking a fierce gunfight on September 12. The exchange of fire ended with two Maoists dead.
At the encounter site, forces recovered a .303 rifle with its magazine and four live rounds, a 12-bore gun loaded with four rounds, plus explosive materials. They also found Maoist gear like batteries, codex wires, a scanner set, and banned literature from the outlawed group.
Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav shared that this was a precise mission based on reliable intel about Naxal movements in the area. The slain Naxalites were Hidma Podiyam, 34, from Bedset in the Indravati region, and Munna Madkam, 25, from Katekalyan in Dantewada district. Both belonged to Platoon No. 1 of Company No. 2 and each had a Rs 8 lakh reward on their heads.
This incident follows a big win for security forces just a day earlier. On Thursday, they neutralised 10 Naxalites, including top commander and Central Committee member Manoj, who had a Rs 1 crore bounty. Forces seized 10 weapons from that site too.
Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma praised the teams for the Thursday operation, calling it a smart and controlled effort that took down key Maoist figures. These back-to-back successes highlight ongoing efforts to curb Naxal insurgency in the region.
