Thousands of devotees flocked to the Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, on Monday to kick off Shardiya Navratri with vibrant prayers and celebrations. This nine-night Hindu festival honors Goddess Durga and her divine feminine power, drawing huge crowds to temples across India.
From the bustling streets of Haridwar to sacred sites elsewhere, people embraced the spirit of Navratri. In Uttar Pradesh, crowds gathered at the Kali Mata Temple in Moradabad, while in Ayodhya, devotees offered prayers at the Devkali Temple. Delhi saw massive turnouts too, with worshippers filling the Kalkaji Temple, Jhandewalan Temple, and the Shree Adya Katyayani Shaktipeeth Mandir in Chhatarpur.
Shardiya Navratri, celebrated in the Hindu month of Ashwin, brings alive stories of strength and devotion. Each day focuses on a different form of the goddess, blending rituals, fasting, and joyful dances like Garba and Dandiya. At many temples, including those honoring Sri Kanakadurga, the deity appears as Sri Maha Chandika Devi—a powerful symbol of Mahalakshmi, Mahakali, and Mahasaraswati. Worshipping her is said to bring knowledge, wealth, and protection, turning challenges into blessings.
The festival highlights themes of compassion, wisdom, and triumph over evil. On the seventh day, devotees honor Maa Kaalratri, the fierce form of Goddess Durga who battles demons and banishes negativity, lighting the way for her followers.
As Navratri unfolds, communities come together for music, feasts, and prayers, creating an electric atmosphere of faith and festivity nationwide.
