In Uttar Pradesh, state leaders and citizens will come together to celebrate Valmiki Jayanti on October 7. The day will feature an array of events across the state, from Ramayana recitations and devotional songs to lamp‑lighting ceremonies at every Valmiki‑associated temple and site.
The biggest gathering will unfold at the Maharishi Valmiki meditation centre in Chitrakoot, a city that holds a special place in the saga of the epic. Deputy Director of Tourism RK Rawat will coordinate the festivities, which kick off at 11 a.m. with a garlanding of the Maharishi’s statue. After the lights are lit, popular reciter Virat Maharaj will lead a Ramayana reading, followed by performances from young Sanskrit scholars.
Local artists will also be spotlighted. Dayaram Raikwad and his team will conduct worship‑havan, sing devotional tunes, and share the Luv‑Kush episode—a favourite story from the epic. These cultural shows aim to give community talent a platform while drawing in crowds of devotees.
The holiday will ripple throughout the state. Apart from Chitrakoot, major hubs such as Tulsi Das Ashram in Rajapur, Valmiki Ashram in Bithoor, the Valmiki Ashram at Shravasti in Ayodhya, and venues in Prayagraj will host similar events. Each district’s cultural council has selected local performers and organisers, ensuring a blend of tradition and community participation.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that every venue provide clean surroundings, drinking water, good sound and lighting, and secure access. The government’s focus is on a seamless, inclusive celebration that honours the epic’s author while inviting everyone to join in prayer, song and cultural exchange.
