In the run‑up to Bihar’s assembly elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) revealed its seat‑sharing plan, sparking surprise and disappointment among some of its smaller partners.
The alliance will field 101 candidates each from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)). The Lok Janshakti Party, led by Chirag Paswan, will contest 29 seats, while Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will each have only six seats.
RLM leader Upendra Kushwaha reacts
Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha took to the social‑media platform X on Sunday to address supporters who had hoped for a larger share of seats. In a heartfelt post, he apologized for the shortfall and asked for forgiveness.
“I know this will hurt many of you, especially those who wanted to stand for our party,” Kushwaha wrote. “Please bear with us. Behind every decision are reasons you may not see.”
He added that some families might face food shortages this election season, but urged supporters to calm their anger and trust the process. “Time will prove whether the decision was right or wrong,” he concluded.
NDA’s seat‑sharing announcement
The seat distribution was announced by BJP leaders Vinod Tawde and Dharmendra Pradhan, who highlighted the Alliance’s unity. Pradhan noted that the pact had come after meetings in Delhi and Patna among all partner parties.
BJP’s candidate list on the horizon
Meanwhile, the BJP’s Central Election Committee is finalising its candidates, focusing on fresh faces and potentially dropping sitting MPs who face local backlash. The party plans to release its first candidate list on Monday.
As Bihar voters head to the polls, the limited seats for smaller parties like RLM and HAM underline how seat‑sharing deals can shape the political landscape. The coming weeks will show whether voters rally behind the major partners or look for new voices across the state.
