Rahul Gandhi fired back at alleged vote theft during a rally in the colonial hill town of Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday. The Congress leader, who heads the opposition in the Lok Sabha, called the accusations a direct blow to democracy and to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s Constitution.
At the event, Gandhi said the so‑called “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) process was a cover for widespread vote manipulation. He cited a “Haryana model” in which 25 lakh votes were reportedly stolen – roughly one out of every eight votes. According to him, similar irregularities exist in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh. “We have evidence and will release it one by one,” he promised.
The rally is part of Congress’s “Sangthan Srijan Abhiyan,” a drive to rebuild grassroots strength before the next general election. Gandhi spoke to workers about the need for unity and vigilance against electoral fraud.
A lighter moment at the training session showed Gandhi’s good‑natured side. He arrived a few minutes late, and training head Sachin Rao jokingly warned that latecomers would do “penal action.” Rao suggested “at least ten push‑ups.” Gandhi obeyed, dropping down in his white shirt and trousers while other district presidents joined him. “We had a very good response from district presidents,” Gandhi said later, turning the moment into a playful lesson.
Before heading back to Bhopal, the leader visited Gandhi Chowk in Pachmarhi, laying flowers near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi—an echo of non‑violent resistance amid his claims of democratic erosion. He shook hands and posed for photos with locals.
BJP officials dismissed Gandhi’s allegations as baseless attempts to deflect attention from the party’s electoral losses. The Election Commission has not yet issued a response. The claims will likely spark further debate across India’s political landscape.
