Mumbai – A former spouse of Dr. Shaheen, a Lucknow‑based doctor linked to the Faridabad terror module, has denied any ties to her or the case. Zafar Hayat, who was married to Shaheen until 2015, says his family is “liberal” and has no connections to terror networks.
Shaheen, from Daliganj in Lucknow, was arrested on Monday after police discovered a Swift car that belonged to her. The vehicle also held a Kalashnikov rifle, seized from the Faridabad police raid. According to officials, the car was found based on information provided by Dr. Muzammil, a Kashmiri doctor who was also arrested after 2,900 kg of explosives and flammable material were recovered from two rented rooms in Faridabad. The bust revealed a larger terror module tied to Jaish‑e‑Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat‑ul‑Hind.
“Nothing to do with me,” Hayat told . “We were doctors in 2012–2013, then married. I had two kids and we lived in Maharashtra. She mentioned moving abroad, even New York, but I asked her to stay because our children were starting school. We split up, and we’ve not spoken since.”
He added, “Neither I nor my family has any link to the Faridabad case. We’re not involved.”
The Faridabad operation prompted a broader probe into suspected terror networks across Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Police have also arrested two Jammu‑and‑Kashmir doctors, Adil Ahmad Rather and Muzammil, linked to the same extremist groups. Security agencies remain focused on uncovering a wider network that may span several states.
