West Bengal’s flood‑tide has taken 27 lives so far, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is pushing a rapid relief effort. She told reporters in Bagdogra that every possible aid is on its way to the hardest‑hit areas.
“All relief materials are being sent,” Banerjee said, noting that 400 food packets already reached Mirik yesterday. “We are also sending kits to Nagrakata, Siliguri, Maynaguri and Alipurduar,” she added. “My Panchayat Minister is on the ground, and we are working nonstop to get help to every corner of the state.”
The CM’s message comes after a spike in heavy rainfall on Saturday night and early Sunday, which left villages drenched and many roadways submerged. The government has mobilised relief teams, transportation and medical care, and has set up temporary shelters for displaced families.
In a related political fallout, a TMC office in Tripura was attacked, prompting an official response. The CM said a team has gone to the site for a briefing, underscoring the party’s intent to protect its workers. The incident follows attacks on two BJP officials – MP Khagan Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh – who were targeted while visiting flood‑affected regions to provide support. Party MP Saayoni Ghosh condemned the violence and suggested that the BJP might be behind the assault as a revenge act.
“Whatever the front‑line workers see, we will assess the situation and reassure them they are not alone,” Ghosh said. She warned that “threat messages have already started since the TMC delegation was announced to visit Tripura.”
Police are investigating the attacks, and both TMC and the state government are bolstering security for aid workers. As West Bengal continues its flood relief drive, the attention remains on both delivering urgent help to those affected and ensuring the safety of relief teams on the frontlines.
