Teen Yoga Instructor in Bengaluru Faces Sexual Harassment Charges from Minor Student
A shocking case of sexual harassment has come to light in Bengaluru, where a teenage girl has accused her yoga instructor of exploiting her during a trip to Thailand and later at his yoga institute. The incident, reported to the police on August 30, has led to an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and Section 12 of the POCSO Act, highlighting serious concerns about child sexual abuse in yoga centers.
The accused, a yoga instructor from Assam and Secretary of the Karnataka Yogasana Sports Association (KYSA), had known the victim since 2019. She began joining yoga competitions in 2021 and traveled with him to Thailand in 2023 for an event when she was just 17. That’s when he allegedly sexually harassed her for the first time. Devastated, the girl quit yoga competitions altogether after the trip.
Fast forward to 2024: The victim enrolled at a yoga institute in Bengaluru run by the same instructor. Police say he continued the harassment, luring her with promises of winning medals in national yoga competitions and securing job placements. In a disturbing turn, he sexually exploited her right there at the institute in August 2024—not 2025, as some reports might suggest. Just days later, on August 22, he tried to get physically intimate again, dangling the offer of a spot in a state-level yoga event.
As the investigation deepens, police uncovered even more alarming details. They believe the instructor may have raped 10 to 15 other women who attended classes at his yoga center in Bengaluru. Authorities seized his mobile phone and found a video linked to the crimes. They’re now calling on other possible victims to step forward and file complaints, expecting more cases to surface soon.
This Bengaluru sexual harassment case underscores the urgent need for safety in yoga institutes and sports associations. Police continue their probe, aiming to bring justice for the victims. If you’re affected or know someone who is, reach out to local authorities right away. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
