CM Yogi Adityanath vows to nurture start-up ecosystem in UP

Yogi Adityanath Boosts UP’s Startup Scene with Praise for Ayurveda’s Global Reach

In Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is all set to supercharge Uttar Pradesh’s startup ecosystem. He recently celebrated the impressive achievements of four key government labs here, which are taking Ayurveda-based drugs to the world stage. This came up during a lively two-day CSIR Startup Conclave, where experts, researchers, and policymakers gathered to discuss innovation.

Yogi Adityanath chatted with reps from research institutions, startups, and Ayurveda pros. He gave a big thumbs up to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) labs in Lucknow: the National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (IITR), and Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI). These powerhouses have teamed up to create 13 major herbal drugs that tackle lifestyle issues and chronic conditions like diabetes and cancer.

One star of the show? BGR-34, a diabetes management drug developed jointly by NBRI and CIMAP. This herbal powerhouse uses six natural ingredients: Daruharidra, Giloy, Vijaysar, Gudmar, Manjistha, and Methi. It’s already a hit for controlling blood sugar levels, but now experts are eyeing it for something bigger—diabetes reversal. Dr. Sanchit Sharma, who handles its commercial marketing, shared his excitement: "The world is shifting from just managing diabetes to actually reversing it. Drugs like BGR-34 blend ancient Ayurveda with modern science, paving the way for a diabetes-free future."

Other breakthroughs include Paclitaxel, sourced from the Arjuna tree bark to fight blood cancer, and Picroliv, which helps with fatty liver and cell damage. These innovations show how Uttar Pradesh’s Ayurveda research is making waves in herbal medicine and natural remedies.

Union Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh dropped by the conclave too. He called it a perfect example of the "lab to people" innovation model, urging startups to grab government tech and expand it globally. With rising demand for natural health solutions, he sees huge potential in India’s herbal sector for both local and international markets.

Yogi Adityanath, touring the exhibition with Dr. Singh, pushed researchers to speed up turning these herbal solutions into commercial hits. It’s a clear sign that UP is betting big on Ayurveda startups to drive growth and wellness. As the conclave wrapped up, the buzz was all about blending tradition with tech for a healthier tomorrow.
