Macron says 26 countries commit to Ukraine ceasefire deployment

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that 26 countries, mostly from Europe, have pledged to send troops to support Ukraine. While these troops won’t be on the front lines, they will form a “reassurance force” to help keep peace and provide security support to Ukraine.

Macron made the announcement during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing.” He explained that the countries are ready to help with land, sea, and air support, aiming to strengthen Ukraine’s security network without direct fighting.

The leaders also held a call with U.S. President Donald Trump. The United States is expected to confirm its contributions soon, possibly offering air support to protect Ukraine. Zelensky has also discussed with Trump the need for “maximum protection” for Ukraine’s skies.

This meeting is part of a larger group of 35 countries working together to support Ukraine. The coalition, led by Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has committed to providing security guarantees to help Ukraine defend itself amid ongoing tensions with Russia.

Zelensky welcomed the recent announcements, calling them a “concrete” step forward. He also emphasized that talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin—whether bilateral or multilateral—are essential for moving toward peace.

This coalition aims to strengthen Ukraine’s security and encourage negotiations to end the conflict. The support and decisions made by these countries mark an important step in global efforts to assist Ukraine during this difficult time.
