Indian and Singapore leaders strengthen ties during high-level visits
New Delhi, September 4 — India and Singapore are boosting their relationship with important meetings between top leaders. Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong arrived in India for a three-day visit, signaling a strong partnership between the two nations.
During his visit, Wong met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. They discussed how to expand cooperation in many areas, including trade, investment, manufacturing, connectivity, digital technology, healthcare, skills development, sustainability, defense, and cultural links. Both leaders agreed on a new roadmap to guide their growing partnership and spoke about regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Modi and Wong also jointly launched the second phase of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT) at Navi Mumbai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port, which Singapore helped develop. This terminal is now India’s largest single container facility and the biggest port in the country.
In addition, Singapore’s Prime Minister met with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to discuss strengthening education and skill development links. Wong shared on social media that the talks were “fruitful” and that education is a key part of Singapore-India cooperation.
Earlier, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also met Wong and expressed confidence that India-Singapore ties will grow even stronger. Jaishankar praised Wong’s visit and commitment to deepening the relationship.
Wong’s visit includes meetings with other Indian officials, including Health Minister JP Nadda and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, focusing on healthcare and economic cooperation. His trip comes after engagements focused on regional stability, security, and cultural exchanges.
This visit marks an important step in the evolving strategic partnership between India and Singapore. Both countries are working together to promote growth, security, and global stability—solidifying their place as key partners in Asia and beyond.
