Angry Aussie who stomped on Bondi Beach gunman’s head says he did something ‘every Australian wanted to do’

After the tragic shootings at Bondi Beach, an Australian who was caught on camera stomping on a suspect’s head said he still has no regrets. Jacob Barnfield, who went viral for the action taken during the suspect’s arrest, explained that his punch wasn’t just a spontaneous act—he felt it was “exactly what everyone wanted to do in that moment.”

“I could see plenty of shots fired at him,” Barnfield told The Sun. “I saw the bodies, heard the families screaming, and it stirred a huge anger inside me. That’s why I kicked him, even though it was risky.”

He didn’t specify which gunman he hit, but witnesses agree he was shirtless, sprinting across the concrete bridge and shouting, “F–king bash him!” while delivering the blow.

Barnfield was among those who helped pull the 24‑year‑old Naveed Akram and his father, Sajid, out of the chaos that left 40 people injured as a crowd celebrated Hanukkah.

The video footage shows other bystanders risking their lives, most notably Ahmed el Ahmed, a 43‑year‑old father from Syria. He wrestled a gun away from a gunman and was left wounded, reportedly saying he was ready to sacrifice himself for others.

Although the exact circumstances of the stomp are still unclear, Barnfield insists he didn’t think about his own safety. “You’re running past kids who are bleeding, families panicked, and every body is in danger. It’s fight or flight,” he said.

The incident, filmed in real time, has sparked a wider conversation about the limits of citizen intervention during mass violence. While some praise those who stepped up, others question whether such actions might provoke further harm. Nonetheless, Barnfield remains firm: he does not regret giving the suspect the punishment he felt was deserved.
