In a recent White House press briefing, President Donald Trump said he plans to travel to India soon, calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “great man” and a personal friend. Trump added that trade talks with India are moving smoothly and that a visit next year is possible. He remembered his 2020 trip, saying it was “a great trip” with Modi.
Trump also noted India’s shift away from buying Russian oil, and the White House confirmed the President’s strong respect for Modi. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump and his trade team are in serious discussions with India about trade and that the two leaders speak “pretty frequently.”
The White House highlighted last month’s Diwali celebration in the Oval Office, where Trump praised Modi and expressed love for the people of India. Leavitt also mentioned the appointment of Sergio García Gómez as the new US ambassador to India, underscoring the U.S.’ commitment to deepening ties.
These remarks come as U.S.‑India cooperation strengthens across trade, energy, and cultural exchanges, helping both nations build a closer partnership.
