Unlocking limitless potential of India-US ties: PM Modi responds to Trump’s call for renewed trade talks

PM Modi Welcomes US Trade Talks Restart, Highlights India-US Partnership Potential

In a positive move for bilateral ties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has warmly responded to US President Donald Trump’s announcement on restarting trade negotiations between India and the United States. Modi stressed that these discussions will "unlock the limitless potential of the India-US partnership," signaling a bright future for both nations.

Trump shared the exciting news on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he revealed that talks are back on track to tackle trade barriers between India and the US. This comes after some tensions, but both leaders now seem eager to push forward.

Reacting quickly, PM Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to affirm the strong bond between the two countries. He wrote, “India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership. Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump. We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people.”

The announcement from Trump happened on Tuesday (US time), where he expressed optimism about resolving issues. “I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations,” he posted on Truth Social. Trump also called PM Modi a “very good friend” and said he looks forward to chatting with him in the coming weeks. He added, “I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our great countries.”

This fresh push follows a recent thaw in US rhetoric toward India. Just last Friday, during a White House press conference, Trump praised Modi, saying, “I’ll always be friends with Prime Minister Modi” and describing him as a "great Prime Minister."

The context here ties back to earlier trade tensions. On August 27, Trump had imposed 50 percent tariffs on Indian imports to the US, doubling a previous 25 percent levy. This step came as a response to India’s ongoing purchases of Russian oil during the Ukraine conflict. Now, with negotiations resuming, many hope this will ease those barriers and boost India-US trade relations.

As both leaders gear up for talks, the world watches closely. Could this lead to stronger economic ties and more opportunities for people in India and the US? Stay tuned for updates on these India-US trade negotiations.
