It’s the most delightful time of year in New York, especially for the handful of lucky ticket‑holders who just hit the jackpot.
A Long Island lotto caller found himself a $13.9 million prize on the night of Christmas Eve. The winning ticket, which matched all six numbers in the drawing, was sold by Lovely Cards and Gifts in Hicksville, officials confirmed.
In Queens, a “A Day for Life” ticket—priced at $1,000—went on sale at a convenience store in Oakland Gardens on 48th Avenue during the Cash 4 Life drawing that took place Wednesday night. State lottery officials said the purchase guarantees a minimum payout of $7 million.
The Powerball jackpot that opened on Christmas Eve was a staggering $1.82 billion, the second largest in lottery history. While the grand prize was secured by a ticket sold in Little Rock, Arkansas, a second‑place winner in Lindenhurst snatched a $1 million prize from a gas‑station K‑mart on West Montauk Highway.
Another pair of million‑dollar winners were recorded for Monday’s Powerball draw, with one ticket bought at a newsstand on Pine Street in the Financial District and the other at Gurucharan and Brothers, a convenience store on West Merrick Road in Valley Stream.
This marks the second time a Powerball grand prize has gone up on Christmas Eve; the first instance was in 2011 when an anonymous holder walked away with $129 million.
For Saturday’s drawing, the jackpot was reset to $20 million. The massive Wednesday night payout was only eclipsed by the $2.04 billion prize awarded in November 2022, underscoring how rare such colossal wins remain.
