At about 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Hoover police discovered Christina Chambers—known for her work with WBRC 6—and her husband, Johnny Rimes, dead in their family home, both with gunshot wounds. While the agency is treating the killing as a possible murder‑suicide, investigators are still looking into how or why it happened.
Nearby, neighbor Charles Maple had come to the house because the couple hadn’t shown up for a church meeting. According to Maple, the toddler who had been born to Christina and Johnny was still safe and answered the door.
“The child answered the door,” he told People, adding that the adults returned inside only to find the bodies. “It is heartbreaking,” he said, describing his shock at discovering what he had sensed had gone wrong the moment the child was born.
The couple, who had moved to the Hoover area seven years earlier, seemed to enjoy a loving relationship, Maple recalled. He said he “was so shocked, but for some reason, I wasn’t totally surprised.”
After the tragedy, WBRC 6 aired a moving tribute to Christina that evening, celebrating her tireless dedication and warm nature. Reporter Gillian Brooks summed up her reaction: “Christina Chambers had a beautiful ability to naturally feel like a friend immediately.”
She went on to say, “Many at WBRC are in shock that they are talking about Christina, this bright light, in the past tense, but the WBRC family is reflecting on the impact she will have on their lives forever.” The Hoover Police Department will keep probing the case, while the Jefferson County Coroner will determine the exact cause and manner of the couple’s deaths.
