Lindsey Boylan, the former aide who was the first woman to publicly name former Gov. Andrew Cuomo as a sexual harasser, is said to be weighing a bid for a seat on the Manhattan City Council.
Sources close to the Democratic establishment in Manhattan say Boylan is eyeing the vacancy left by Councilman Erik Bottcher, who opted to run for state Senate instead of entering the crowded congressional primary to replace Rep. Jerry Nadler in 2020.
“I cannot think of a community I care more about and I’m absolutely exploring if I can rise to the occasion for this moment. It’s been an honor and a lot of fun in the short time I’ve been talking to people in our community,” Boylan told the Post.
Her campaign would follow a brief foray into politics last year when she challenged Rep. Nadler in the Democratic primary for New York’s 10th congressional district.
The former governor has repeatedly denied every accusation leveled against him. Nonetheless, a report from Attorney General Letitia James concluded that Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women. Criminal investigations into the claims were ultimately dropped due to insufficient evidence.
Manhattan Democratic consultant Chris Sosa praised Boylan as a potential “exciting and dynamic voice in the race to many progressives, both on a policy level and because of her history of being downright fearless in the face of power.”
Other candidates have already declared their intent to run for the same seat, including Bottcher’s chief of staff Carl Wilson, Manhattan Community Board 4 member Leslie Boghosian Murphy, and Layla Law‑Gisiko, president of The City Club of New York.
Special elections for Manhattan council seats are normally scheduled at least 80 days after a vacancy opens but can be moved forward or backward to boost turnout, according to the NYC Campaign Finance Board.
