‘Anti-capitalist’ New Year’s Eve LA terror plot suspects lived in upscale California suburbs
While they tout an anti‑capitalist philosophy, the four people charged with planning a coordinated bombing spree on New Year’s Eve in the Los Angeles region actually come from fairly affluent neighborhoods.
Tina Lai, 41, was listed as living in a 4‑bedroom house in Arcadia—an upscale suburb whose median home price hovers near $2 million, roughly 66 % higher than the citywide average of $1.2 million according to Realtor.com.
Her official address, a 2,000‑square‑foot residence about 13 miles from downtown, was still on record this month, and the property appears to belong to her father.
The other suspects—Audrey Ilene Carroll (30), Zachary Aaron Page (32), and Dante Gaffield (24)—also resided in well‑off areas. Page’s summer papers showed a 3‑bedroom townhouse in Oak Park, a Ventura County suburb whose median home value is around $920,000; he was not listed as the owner.
Carroll’s address was a two‑bedroom, two‑bath apartment in downtown Los Angeles, inside a complex that offers outdoor BBQ and rooftop amenities.
Units in the building market for over $2,500 a month. Gaffield’s most recent listing tied him to his father’s home in Altadena, a middle‑class community with a median sale price of $720,500.
All four are linked to a splinter cell of the Turtle Island Liberation Front (TILF), an extremist group that has openly denounced capitalism, America, law enforcement, and Israel.
The cell, called the Order of the Black Lotus, flaunts slogans such as “Death to America” and, in an October Facebook post, claimed that their call for ending colonization does not aim to harm non‑indigenous citizens.
Officials say the suspects plotted the New Year’s bombings under the codename “OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN” and discussed future attacks on ICE agents. A fifth individual was apprehended in New Orleans on a separate plot.
