Police in Atlanta arrested a 51‑year‑old driver after he shot a teen who broke into his car. The incident happened in Fairburn, about 20 miles south of downtown Atlanta, just before 3 a.m. on Tuesday. Authorities describe the event as a carjacking that turned deadly.
When officers arrived, they found a boy under 18 with a gunshot wound to his foot. The teenager admitted he was shot because he had forced his way into the victim’s vehicle. He was taken to a local children’s hospital and is expected to recover.
The shooter, Yoshay Carter, owns the car that was targeted. City police say he confronted the intruder and fired the shots. Carter was booked into the Fulton County Jail and is now charged with aggravated assault under Georgia law. The charges come amid debates over the state’s “use of force” statutes, which allow people to defend property without retreating if they believe it is necessary. Police have not yet confirmed whether self‑defense laws will apply in Carter’s case.
The shooting highlights how quickly a routine car theft can become a dangerous confrontation. Residents in the area now watch closely as the legal process unfolds.
